What is a CVT Transmission and What Makes It Different?

So, what is a CVT transmission and what makes it different from a standard automatic transmission? Well the transmissions in most cars you see rolling around Fort Collins have gears. But a CVT does not use gears. Instead, it uses two pulleys and a belt. This allows for more efficiency on the part of the transmission. The lack of gears means that a CVT transmission has far fewer parts than a standard automatic transmission. Here are some of the advantages of a CVT transmission:

• Much less expensive to manufacture
• Smooth drivability
• Repair bills are likely to be less expensive than with a conventional transmission
